Ashburnham Drive Realignment and McFarlane Street Bridge Replacement
The City of Peterborough has completed the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) for the proposed realignment of Ashburnham Drive and replacement of the McFarlane Street bridge. The study was carried out as a Schedule C project in accordance with the Municipal Engineers Association's MCEA (2024), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.
The Eastside Transportation Study (ESTS) was completed in July 2023, which assessed transportation infrastructure needs and priorities in East City. Based on the findings of the ESTS, a number of recommended transportation projects were identified, including the realignment of Ashburnham Drive, generally between Maniece Avenue and McFarlane Street, and the replacement of the existing McFarlane Street bridge crossing the Trent Severn Waterway. The ESTS was undertaken in accordance with Approach #1 of the Master Planning Process, which generally addressed Phases 1 and 2 of the MCEA process. The City proceeded with Phases 3 and 4 to evaluate alternative design concepts, identify a preferred solution, assess potential impacts and mitigation measures, and document the planning and decision-making process.
The Environmental Study Report (ESR) has now been completed and is available for public comment. The ESR documents the study process, including identification and evaluation of alternative design concepts, Preferred Design, potential environmental impacts and proposed mitigation measures, as well as consultation activities undertaken as part of this study. Information on how to access the ESR and submit comments is provided below.
