Currently, where on-street parking is permitted, vehicles can park on-street in Peterborough for a maximum of 3 hours unless otherwise signed. In addition, on-street parking is prohibited between 2:00 am and 6:00 am from December 1 to April 1. Residents and visitors who park for less than 3-hours, or who park outside of the seasonal overnight ban period, will NOT need a parking permit.

Residents of Pilot Areas who would like to park on-street longer than the 3 hour maximum, or overnight between December 1 or April 1 will need to obtain an on-street parking permit. Permit holders will still have to comply with all other parking requirements outlined in the parking by-law. This includes prohibitions against interfering with vehicle movements, snow removal and minimum separation from driveways, fire hydrants, crosswalks, intersections, and bus stops

Pilot Study area Residents can apply for a permit through the Hotspot Parking App. 24-hour and 48-hour permit applicants will need to provide an address in a Pilot Area and the license plate of the vehicle. When longer-term permits are available, 1-month, 6-month, and 1-year permit applicants may need to provide additional documentation, such as proof of residence and proof of ownership.

Permits will be issued on the HotSpot Parking App – no stickers or hang-tags will be issued. In-person permit applications for study area residents will be processed at the Parking Office at the King Street Garage, 202 King Street, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please note that parking permits will not be issued for heavy vehicles, heavy trucks, derelict vehicles, unlicensed vehicles, immobile trailers, or abandoned vehicles. All vehicles must be operable, roadworthy, licensed, and insured at all times. The permit does not authorize the parking or storage of vehicles for the purpose of sale, repair, servicing, or long-term storage. Permit holders will be required to move their vehicles at least once every 72 hours.

When snow-clearing operations are taking place, no parking or stopping of a vehicle is permitted on any city street. Permit holders will not be exempted from this, and vehicles left on the street during plowing may be ticketed or towed. During snowstorms, free overnight parking is available in municipal parking garages and surface lots. Drivers can use the parking garage entrance ticket for a free ride home on Peterborough Transit.

In the event of road resurfacing or other maintenance, the City of Peterborough reserves the right to amend, modify, suspend, or discontinue the pilot program, permit eligibility, permitted locations, or permit terms and conditions.
