What's Happening The City of Peterborough is inviting residents to learn about the upgrades to the accessible playground at Riverview Park and Zoo, provide feedback and share ideas on what park amenities they would like to see. The park is located at 1300 Water St. N in the north end of the City. The upgrades are to improve the accessibility of Riverview Park and Zoo playground.
Riverview Park and Zoo, in partnership with The Rotary Club of Peterborough, is committed to raising $1.5 million to bring this vision to life. Project ROAR is a community-driven campaign to build an accessible, inclusive playground where children of all abilities can laugh, explore, and play together side by side.
The accessibility upgrades will be a multi-year project and focus on decreasing steep slopes and improving access to the existing playground. The upgrades include new shaded seating areas and walkways throughout the playground areas.
Riverview Park and Zoo is a Canada Accredited Zoo and Aquarium (CAZA) facility and features over 40 animal species.
What we heard Online Survey 67 people responded to the Riverview Park & Zoo Accessible Playground Survey. The survey showed 57 people would drive to the park, 20 would walk/run and 15 would bike. The survey showed strong support for play structure, shade structure and accessible seating including benches being high priority items. Respondents were able to provide additional comment at the end of the survey, 38 people chose to leave an additional comment that included comments on how much they enjoy the super slide and splash pad and to maintain the various play areas targeting different age groups. Other park amenities identified included more swings and comments included the desire for the playground to be more accessible, the need for improving the pathways and desire to keep the existing charm of the park. Comments have been summarized and posted on the project webpage. The feedback received will be reviewed and addressed by the project team through the design process as the project progresses.
Future information about the project and a concept plan will be updated on the Connect Peterborough project page as they come available.
Public Drop in Session A public drop-in session was held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at the Riverview Park and Zoo, Rotary Education Centre. Feedback from this meeting will be included in a summary once the online survey closes.
