What's Happening

The City of Peterborough has developed a plan for the neighbourhood park known as Denne Park, located at 210 Denne Crescent in Ward 4. The Concept Plan for the park represents the vision for the project and identifies the elements provided within the park.

Denne Park was identified as a priority when the City of Peterborough conducted a comprehensive consultation program to assess existing City parks and open spaces. The Assessment of Parks and Open Space review provided an evaluation of the quality and functionality of established neighbourhood parks and identified those in need of rejuvenation. City parks will incorporate features for all ages with a focus on improving accessibility within the parks, as well as accessible paths of travel to parks.

In 2023, through a public drop-in session and an online survey, we collected feedback from the neighbourhood to determine the most requested park features they would like to see in the park and to make suggestions to create an inclusive play environment.

What we heard

According to the City's 2023 survey, the top 5 park amenities in order of ranking were:

  1. Play structure
  2. Open lawn and free play area
  3. Picnic Area
  4. Shade structure
  5. More trees

The top 5 elements of a playground in order of ranking were:

  1. Swings
  2. Climb around structure (i.e. net climber, twisted climb, ladders)
  3. Slide
  4. Nature based play elements
  5. Sensory play (i.e. music and sound stations)

Full details from the survey are available in the Survey Response Report.
