The City of Peterborough is creating a new Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) to chart a pathway to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution produced from community sources. Updating the CCAP is needed to align with the Climate Emergency Declaration passed by City Council in 2019 that targeted net-zero community GHG emissions by 2050.

To achieve reaching net-zero emissions, the CCAP will identify measures and policies that can be taken by the municipality. This will include investigating how buildings, transportation, and nature-based solutions can be favoured to promote significant mitigation. A list of recommended actions that describe the potential GHG reduction impact, expected cost for implementation, timeline for introduction, and role of the municipality will be included in the CCAP.

The City has hired Sustainability Solutions Group to undertake several project tasks, including community engagement, decarbonization and scenario modelling, and finalizing an implementation plan and final report.

Specifically, community engagement will involve several activities such as a phone survey, focus group, and community working group to collect input from residents to help select which measures are important for community members. Added engagement opportunities can be found in the Community Questionnaire and New Ideas tabs to provide additional feedback.

  • The questionnaire seeks information from city residents to understand preferences for selected mitigation measures that the CCAP2.0 may develop as part of the community plan.
