What's Happening:

The City of Peterborough is undertaking a roadway reconstruction project for Sherbrooke Street from the intersection of Glenforest Boulevard to the west City limit. This project will urbanize this portion of Sherbrooke Street, and is being developed to improve vehicular, cycling, and pedestrian facilities for this key corridor connecting the west end of the City to downtown.

The general goals of this project are to:

  • Improve traffic flow by constructing a centre two-way left-turn lane;
  • Improve the grading and sightlines for users travelling over the hill on Sherbrooke Street near Hywood Road;
  • Improve access to commercial and residential properties within the corridor;
  • Add/improve pedestrian and cycling facilities, including the implementation of protected intersections and in-boulevard cycle tracks on both the north and south sides of the roadway. The Ontario Traffic Council's Protected Intersection Guidelines introduction is provided in the "Documents and Drawings" section of this page for more information regarding protected intersections.

Phasing:

This project is planned to be constructed in multiple phases, with the anticipated phasing as follows, subject to funding approvals:

  • Phase 1 (2026): Property Acquisitions.
  • Phase 2 (2027): Utility relocations.
  • Phase 3 (2028): Reconstruction of Sherbrooke Street from Glenforest Boulevard to Woodglade Boulevard.
  • Phase 4 (2029): Reconstruction of Sherbrooke Street from Woodglade Boulevard to the West City Limit.

Please note that the phasing details outlined above are estimates, and could be subject to change as the project further develops.
