The City of Peterborough has a 10-year strategic plan to enhance the City’s outdoor water play facility needs through the development of new facilities and the replacement of aging facilities at various park locations across the City. The City currently has five splash pads in operation throughout the City.

Splash pads are a fantastic place for children to enjoy cool water on a hot and sunny day in the summer. They are typically open from the end of June to September (weather permitting), from noon until 7 p.m.

Definition of a Splashpad: A splashpad is a recreation area, often in a public park, for water play that has little or no standing water.

New Splash Pads for Turner Park and Hamilton Park

Turner Park, at the intersection of High Street and Chamberlain Street, currently has a wading pool that is more than fifty years old. The proposed new splash pad would replace the aging wading pool. The splash pad will have approximately 14-18 play features and would be in the general location of the existing wading pool. The splash pad will not affect any of the other current park amenities.

Hamilton Park, on Bonaccord Street, currently has a spray post installed on a small concrete apron that is no longer functioning. The proposed splash pad will replace this old spray post and provide a smaller scale splash pad with approximately 10-14 features in the general location of the existing spray post. The splash pad will not affect any of the other current park amenities.

Community Feedback

Surveys opened April 16, 2021 and closed on May 5, 2021 with 378 people providing feedback. Nearby trees, seating areas, and colourful aesthetics and nature were some of the ideas shared by community members through the survey consultation. Community feedback assists the City with designing a splashpad that will meet the needs of the neighbourhoods.

The survey responses have been summarized for both Turner Park and Hamilton Park and can be viewed under the project documents section.

When will the Splashpads be ready for community use...

Turner Park opened for community use June 2022. Hamilton Park opened for community use June 2023.
